Energy and Industrial Competitiveness

Vision Arena, pav. 1

The cost of electricity has become one of the main drivers of declining competitiveness in the Italian production system, with a particularly significant impact on small and medium-sized enterprises. In a geopolitical environment that remains uncertain and with structurally volatile energy markets, understanding the actual composition of energy expenditure is a prerequisite for any strategic decision.

The session opens with a detailed breakdown of the electricity bill across its individual components — commodity costs, system charges, transmission, distribution, and taxation — supported by precise metrics that quantify the real impact of energy costs on business accounts, both in the current scenario and in projections for the coming years.

The focus then shifts to an examination of the solutions available for reducing energy expenditure: from long-term supply agreements to off-site PPAs, through to the various configurations of self-consumption — behind-the-meter generation, collective self-consumption groups, and energy communities, with or without storage systems. Each option is analyzed by highlighting its limitations, opportunities, and the order of magnitude of achievable savings, also incorporating testimonials and case studies.

A session aimed at entrepreneurs, energy managers, and corporate decision-makers who need to define their company's energy strategy and turn energy costs into a competitive advantage.

Focus on:

  • Taking a closer look at the electricity bill. Commodity costs, system charges, network fees, and taxation: the real impact of energy on business accounts — today and in the years ahead
  • Buy or produce? Long-term supply agreements, off-site PPAs, and self-consumption: options compared, with limitations, opportunities, and achievable savings
  • From analysis to action. How to define the most suitable energy strategy for your business
